When a band has as much success as Hoobastank, the motivation to top itself must come from within. For band members Doug Robb (vocalist/songwriter), Dan Estrin (guitarist) and Chris Hesse (drums) that renewed desire can be heard from the very first notes of "My Turn," the first single from the group's fourth major release, For(n)ever released in US in January 2009. The album which marks a return to the rock roots of their earlier release - the platinum self-titled debut and the 2x platinum sophomore album, The Reason - entered the Billboard Top Rock Album chart at #7.
For(n)ever was produced by longtime collaborator Howard Benson, who helmed the band's last two albums, “Every Man for Himself” and “The Reason”. The latter earned three Grammy nominations, for Best Rock Album as well as Song of the Year and Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group for the title track. The song also went on to top Billboard Modern Rock, Adult Top 40 and Top 40 Mainstream charts, peaking at #2 on the Hot 100.
With a voice that raises eyebrows, a dancing ability that wows and a songwriting flair that sets toes tapping, Pixie Lott is arguably the hottest new girl on Britain’s music scene. Her debut hit “Mama Do (Uh Oh, Uh Oh)” has been reigning the UK singles chart, and there is no doubt that she is media’s current darling. At just 18 years of age, she has already worked with pop's cream of the crop tunesmiths including renowned songwriter Phil Thornalley and Mads Hague. Along with Thornalley, Pixie's been holed up in the studio with big time producers like Red One (who worked on Lady Gaga’s 'Just Dance') and also Toby Gad (the NY-based producer/songwriter behind Beyonce’s “If I Were A Boy”).
Pixie’s personality, rich vocals and strangely magnetic persona are evident all over her first single. Her much anticipated debut album, Turn It Up, will be released on September 14, 2009. And what is a better endorsement of her music than being MTV’s PUSH artist for the month of August.
Exciting new UK band, Raygun is made up of Ray Gun(lead singer), The Adj (guitar), Ben Lyonsmyth (bass)and Sam Embery (drums). The band has the razzle of New Wave and the dazzle of the Scissor Sisters’ disco, the filthiness of INXS, as well as the rock nous of a band long ready to start a revolution. Their frontman, Ray Gun, is flamboyant, androgynous, and incredibly charismatic and sounds like the velvet-voiced, finger-waggling progeny of a promiscuous session between Jagger, Bowie and Iggy Pop.
Fresh from their hugely successful support slot on Pink’s European ”Funhouse” tour, Raygun recently announced their debut single “Just Because” on August 3, 2009 with their explosive video directed by Joseph Kahn (Eminem, Britney, U2). See Raygun bring back the excitement of rock ‘n’ roll and be wowed by their energy and enthusiasm at MTV World Stage!
Heating up the stage is also American rock pop group Boys Like Girls. The band, made up of Martin Johnson (lead vocalist), John Keefe (drums), Bryan Donahue (bass) and Paul DiGiovanni (lead guitar), gained mainstream recognition when they released their self-titled debut album Boys Like Girls. It was certified gold by the RIAA and sold more than 700,000 units. Hits such as "The Great Escape" and "Thunder" are a great showcase of the band’s emotionally-charged rock music. The band was won Spin.com’s Artist of the Year by a landslide in 2007. The crossover success of radio hits “Hero/Heroine” and “The Great Escape” resulted in more than four million combined digital sales. The band also toured with the likes of Good Charlotte, Avril Lavigne and the Vans Warped Tour in support of their 2006 debut.
The band recently announced their sophomore album, Love Drunk, which is currently set for a September 8, 2009 release. The album’s title track and lead single was recently released and charted at #1 Most Added at Top 40 radio for the week of July 5 – July 11 and is #1 Alternative on iTunes, with over 1 million people streaming the single over just one week.
