Superman & Superwoman visits us & mesmerizing buns...
It was one of those days when both Nadia and Phat Fabes decided to take off - if you must know, Nadia went back to Kelantan to feed on some cows... while Phat Fabes went on a Captain Jack Sparrow escapade - on a Caribbean cruise! Tsk... tsk...
Anyway, so it was just Amrita our producer and myself... it was approaching 9am and out of no where came 2 red caped individuals...
No, they are not some strange incarnation of Superman nor some strange couple who barged into the studio - it's our Chinese sister station's breakfast deejays a.k.a Morning Kaki (One FM) - Jeff & Jane! Why were they in such costumes? Let's just say they like seeing each other in tight fitting clothes... nuff said...
If that wasn't enough, later in the day I went to this recording studio in Damansara Perdana (near Ikano & the Curve). There's this thing about people not wanting to park in lots... they LOVE parking out of the parking lot.
Why? TO SAVE MONEY apparently! Jeez... what's the logic man... you park out of the line... tow truck comes by - grabs your car and you'd be compounded 500 bucks... when you could have just paid 50 cents for every hour parked... RIDICULOUS! there was this other car that's worth over 600,000 ringgit doing the SAME thing... DING DONGS...
Strangeness continues... Saturday came by and Stella & I checked out this place for Dim Sum... she ordered this pau (bun) - which arrived... and started talking to me...
I think it said "I COMMAND THEE... DO NOT EAT MEEEEEEEEEE"...
Greatest memory so far... sights & shots through a Satio
So I wasn't on-air the whole of last week... some people knew why some people didn't. Was it a regular break - NOT. It was to celebrate 2 things... Stella's Birthday & days after that - our 1st Anniversary! Exactly one year ago, I still remember being at the registrar of marriage - Stella and I being extremely excited and believe it or not, it was the 1st time Stella's dad met my parents after dating for many many YEARS!
A couple of days before the anniversary I decided to book one of my most favourite destinations in Malaysia where we'll be bathed in nothing but top class service, beautiful scenes, romantic moments, peacocks running around - the one & only - Pangkor Laut Resort!
Get ready for LOTS and LOTS of pictures - click on any of them to enlarge...
20th November ... after a night of packing, late night movie and 3 hours of sleep - we woke up at 6:30am - and starting moving... along the way, Stella got fascinated with something that was facing her from a lorry... a bunch of cow's bum...
After through some scenic routes and getting fascinated by a a couple of cow's bum, we finally arrived at the Lumut Jetty... the private boat was already waiting and I was required to wear an orange suit...
20 minutes into the ride... and then it appeared...
Welcome to Pangkor Laut Resort! One of the few resorts in the world where the entire island is owned by the resort itself... while enjoying the beauty... I could almost hear Black Eyed Peas - I Got a Feeling playing the background when suddenly... RIIINNNGGGG! Wahlau - my phone was ringing in the middle of the ocean! Guess what? An urgent tech support call...
So the first thing I did on the island was - Tech Support... see how happily I was smiling? :P
While I was troubleshooting at the lobby... Stella went around and took panoramic shots of the surrounding... (make sure you click the picture to enlarge)
and finally... my troubleshooting was done... we checked in being the kiasu cheap style type - I went for one of the lower categories... Casey who has attended to us the few times we went there was so awesome - she upgraded us to a Sea Villa... YEEHA!
Isn't the view just GORGEOUS? Man... Then we decided to walk around and saw this bird trying to poop...
Can't see it? Ok fine, let me enlarge it all the way - some deterioration of quality will occur...
Question is, was the bird really pooping? OR was it taking a leak on the rock? Then it was food... oh glorious food at this beach Pangkor Laut calls - the Emerald Bay...
checkout the view! (make sure you click to enlarge)
Then it was one of those picture moments...
and we took more panaromic shots of the place... (why Stella lifted her arm I don't know...)
At one point during the trip, we were having lunch and out comes... a PEACOCK!
I also decided to take some artsy fartsy photos... sorry - picture is a little senget - okaylar amateur wat...
That said, one of the biggest surprise was on the night of our anniversary - we were having dinner then suddenly... TADA!
and to make it more personal, the staff members each signed on this card...
Ah... thank you sooo much... Casey, the staff members of Pangkor Laut Resort - you guys really made our 1st Anniversary something we'll treasure for a looooooonnnng time.
Oh yeah, I mentioned something about the Satio? I didn't even bring a proper camera for this trip. All the pictures shown here including the panoramic ones were unedited and taken using my new toy - the Sony Ericsson Satio - 12.1 megapixel yo! :)
Yay! Back from the much needed 1-week break for a couple of celebrations - more on that in my next post but this time... I've got to talk about YOU... yes, U - the Rakyat, the people of Fly FM, the listeners, our friends...
I've been with Fly FM since our 1st Flyniversary - I still remember it was at a mining pool a.k.a the Sunway Extreme Park. It was a great place... much smaller than the birthday celebrations we have today for the station but it was AWESOME. Some people got lost finding their way in... some didn't know if that was the right event due to the dirt road they had to go through... that was the 1st Flyniversary... fast forward 3 whole years... and the 4th Flyniversary came and went - November 14th 2009 - Central Park Avenue, 1 Utama...
My main highlight from the performances was Faizal Tahir's Tribute to Michael Jackson - man, the dude ROCKED big BIG time! It was by far one of the best tributes I've seen - and to make it better - it was ALL LIVE - no lip sync... NOTHING... trust me, I know - I was back stage seeing it all happen... the man is amazing... kudos to you bro. You deserved to win One in a Million.
So anyway, enough of my typing and typing and typing, I'm sure you would have read about all the performances in my other colleagues blogs...
If you missed it... here are some sights and sounds... very quickly, here's the intro video before the 2nd part of the 4th Flyniversary started...
Caprice being interviewed with a HAWT chick... here you see Nadia drooling all over Caprice...
then there's the massive digital LED back drop - first time we ever had something like this for the Flyniversary...
Then there was YOU - you were EVERYWHERE - there were HEADS... gosh...
On the side of the stage... in the mall... near the plants...
Infront...
Here's Nadia the busy body trying to take an individual picture of everyone infront of the stage...
While all that was happening, at one point - Joe Flizzow came out and did his performance with CASH! Jules and I being the kiasu ones went crazy... even though it wasn't real money...
Deejays Lap Sap were AWEEESSSOOOMMMEEE... The crowd went crazy when they started hitting the BEAT!
and then, let's talk about YOU.
The rain started really early in the day... and it lasted throughout the ENTIRE event... sure there were spurts where there was no rain but nonetheless... it was mostly a WET WET WET Flyniversary... honestly, we were worried - would you have stayed? would you have stayed inside to watch? It was pouring cats and dogs at some point... BUT guess what? YOU STOOD STILL. THANK YOU SO MUCH - and so I went on stage and recorded a video of the people of Fly FM promising you that it'd be placed online... THIS is for U.
Once again, thank you for being part of Fly FM. Without you, there wouldn't be us. Thank you for your 4 full years of support - we promise to give you MORE rocking music... MORE rocking concerts... and the BEST we can offer. THANK YOU...
Oh yes, and before I end this entry... I got home after a super massive long day... opened the room door and saw my dog staring at me... she almost looked like she was saying "Eh! COME BACK SO LATE? HAH! DON'T KNOW HOW TO CALL IZZIT?"
The countdown has begun for the biggest party EVER! and Fabes was in the newspaper!
Firstly, the countdown has begun for the BIGGEST PARTY EVER! Just 2 more days to Fly FM's 4th Flyniversary! Wow, 4 years have gone by and you've been by our side - to you, THANK YOU so much for the support you've given us - you've nourished us with your calls, your love, your support, you voice... ahh... simply beautiful!
Make sure you be there this Saturday - 14th November 2009 for the Flyniversary @ Central Park Avenue, 1 Utama - admission is ABSOLUTELY FREE! and for the first time ever, the party begins at 12pm! Starts off with a LIVE broadcast all the way till 3-ish then it all begins...!
I'll have tonnes of updates on the Flyniversary as it gets closer but in the mean time, Nadia and I checked out the Malay Mail today and guess what? We found Phat Fabes and other STRANGE stories... check it out!
Alrighty then... let's start with a not so strange one... James Baum dropped by for an interview on Monday - yes, the man you've been hearing on radio, the man that many chicks from my facebook account are dying to meet... the man who will be performing on our 4th Flyniversary - the man who gave you this track...
And here's the somewhat strange pic...
Question is WHY? WHY was he wearing sunglasses in the studio? Maybe it was Nadia & I - we looked so scary that he decided to wear sunglasses in an indoor environment to completely block out our faces...
Then there's this... FLOWER TEA... it's amazing... before you drop it in, it's almost petal like... but the moment you pour hot water this thing literally BLOOMS - and yes, it did taste flowery - almost flowery tea like...
Then there the one note that's worth trillions of dollars... I'm not kidding - it almost looks like something Dr. Evil from Austin Powers would have... "ONE THRILLLIIIOOONNN DOLLLAAAARRRSSS.."
Then finally... here's a picture that'll get you thinking for a bit... what the heck was Prem doing looking straight at the camera? hint hint... it's got to do with the Flyniversary... :)
Approximately 2 weeks ago, the entire station was told that we would be going for a photoshoot session.
Photoshoot - by far one of the scariest things... Why?
If you look fat, that's how you will look like on a bus / billboard / whatever for a good 4-6 months
If you have a pimple, it'll be magnified? there are always close-up shots
If you have wrinkles, you'd end up looking like Yoda with a face filled with cake
If you look sleepy... well, you will look sleepy on the bus / billboard / whatever... you get the idea...
So naturally, everyone was a little worked up - the dateline was getting closer... and then the day came - Flyday - 6th November 2009 - Photoshoot for the entire Fly FM Gang...
The night before, I freaked out and looked for some last minute remedy...
In all that excitement, Fabes started to rejoice and stole some food from Adam Boy's birthday robot box...
That same morning, Nadia got so worried that she got confused...
No matter what we did... the day arrived... and many of us had no choice but to go through some form of plastic surgery... here's Nadia getting her eyes ENLARGED...
and Fabes getting his face 'reshaped'...
While all that was happening... Prem from Fly FM Rush Hour was CAUGHT IN THE ACT! - doing the NAAASSSTTTYYY...
I shall leave the rest to your imagination... :)
More to come soon... keep your eyes glued to the blog...
Amrita our Producer does torture us - we've got evidence...
You see, radio is a very mysterious thing - well, I'd say magical. Sometimes, what you hear may not be what it seems. For example, our very dear producer Amrita - many people say the three of us bully her... but here's a video she FORCED <- (urghh) us to record...
She claims this is how she 'controls' the three of us...
Just a word of caution - what you are about to see could be disturbing. Parental guidance advised. What's shown on this video may not necessarily work or apply to all human kind.
Klang + possibly the most beautiful Birthday cake in the world... = ?
Happy... Birthday to you... Happy Birthday to you... it was my mum's birthday celebration thingy over the weekend. Well, not her exact date of birth - we decided to celebrate it a few days earlier as it's the weekend and the entire family gets to come together...
My family and I took her to a VERY REMOTE part of Klang - ok fine, not that remote but took us approximately 40 minutes to drive from Damansara to Tanjung Harapan and finally, Bagan Hailam.
Food wasn't the best in the world, it was alright... the view wasn't too bad - boats going by, the sea right beneath the restaurant's wooden extension... but I think the highlight of the night was the birthday cake Stella (my wife) got for her - btw, I picked the design :P (eh, gotta praise myself a little k?) - it's called Love Is In The Air - check it out!
Isn't it the most beautiful birthday cake you have ever seen? Every 'cupcake' was intricately designed... some had clouds and a heart shape over it, some had letters that spelled 'Happy Birthday Mummy'... just beautiful...
So I spent the night at my parent's place...
Next morning, my mum was already busy cooking - she's got this thing - this obsession with baking and cooking - guess what?
Home made PIZZA with generous servings of CHEESE and MEAT and whatever you want on a PIZZA...
AND... TADA! Another Birthday cake she baked for herself! A home made Durian cake!
Everything looked so good that one of my dogs got jealous... and I've got proof...
My mum is amazing... Happy Birthday mummy!
PS. My mum is taking orders for the durian cake... let me know if you are interested :P
So I woke up early this morning, first thing I did, turned on my mobile, checked my inbox and there it was! The long awaited Google Wave INVITE!!!
So after going on Twitter and with the help of a couple of friends (thank you - Adrian) who already have Wave invites, I managed to speed through the introduction course and checked out a number of features...
First impression When the super massive intelligent beings at Google first set-out to develop something revolutionary, they described it as E-mail - invented today - and so, the interface does look very e-mail like.
3 columns, 1st column - List of contacts on the side, there are folders for archiving and organizing purposes, there's an inbox, a spam section... Right in the center pane you've got the list of 'mails' - known as a 'wave'. Then there's the content of the active wave on the far right pane.
It's almost like a LIVE e-mail conversation You start a Wave (e-mail conversation) using the "new wave" button, then you select your recipients by dragging them from your contacts list and begin typing! That's it!
As you type, all your recipients who are on Google Wave will see you type LIVE... and while you are typing they can type too! Essentially, this is a LIVE conversation - where you will see EVERY TYPO error, every spelling mistake, whether or not something was copied and pasted... it's amazing. Sometimes, before I was able to finish my sentence / question, the other party had already answered...
Want to add pictures / files to the Wave and share it with your friends in real-time? Just drag and drop!
How about previewing pictures? Instead of downloading, just double click and it'll show in full-screen!
It's also got Gadgets and Gizmo's you can add to each Wave...
Wanna point someone to your current location? Give someone directions? Use the map gadget!
Lunching at this restaurant but wondering if friends would like to join you? Add the Yes / No / Maybe Gadget!
Robots are your friends... LITERALLY! For me, Google Wave is way more than LIVE e-mails or MSN Messenger with LIVE typing... it's more like a collaboration tool. Remember contacts? Well, guess what? You can add friends / contacts that are robots.
Turn your Google Wave - 'WAVE' into a Twitter client! Just add Tweety the Tweet Bot - tweety-wave@appspot.com to your contacts, drag the bot into a new wave and voila!
Monitoring something on Twitter? Create another wave, add Tweety and get it to monitor certain keywords and alert you when it sees any!
Wikipedia BOT is a SLAVE to you... MUAHAHAHA... wikifier@appspot.com
Just imagine you're WAVE-ing with a friend on Google Wave and all of a sudden you need information a link from Wikipedia on Mariah Carey, NO SCAT, just drag the Wikipedia Bot from your contacts list into the Wave and do this...
Once you're done, the Wikipedia Bot recognizes the command and does this!
So you've got Mariah Carey URL, what if you need summarized information on big mama MC... just key in the other command...
and voila!...
AMAZING!
Bit.Ly - URL Shortener Bot bitly-bot@appspot.com
So you've got the Mariah Carey link the Wikipedia BOT gave you - but typing it / writing it down is just too long! Not to worry, just drag in your Bit.Ly Bot into the conversation, key in the long URL...
Summary As you can see, Google Wave is not just a 'new generation e-mail', it's not just a collaboration tool, it's not just a Twitter client when needed to be... there's just so much more to talk about, to explore - all that was I managed to grasp in 2 hours - it's a one of a kind, communication tool that knows no boundaries - possibilities are literally endless.
Have you got you Google Wave invite yet? Oh yes, before you start asking, I don't have any - Google was REALLY KIAMSIAP a.k.a stingy when they got me the account - I can't give out invites... YET. You'll know when I've got some... don't worry, I'll spread the love :)
Want to see it in action?... from the Creators of Google Wave themselves...
