And so many things have happened since! For starters, WE WON BACK TO SCHOOL!!!! WOOZA!!! This just goes to show, o dear students, that there is no shortcut to acing an exam. Just pure hard work and of course, hard play to reward yourself after. I read this quote somewhere that goes something like, "Success is merely a reward for your efforts" and I think we should always keep that in mind when trying to achieve something.
In another note, congratulations to the Pagi Show for winning Best Radio Show at the Shout Awards! I had great fun at the awards and am really looking forward to the next installment in 2010. Here are some pictures from my instant baby...
Here's me with big winners of the night (3 awards!), Bunkface. And in the next one is me, Mervin, Hafiz and upcoming hawt young producer Mika.
Here's one with me and One Nation Emcees whom I presented Coolest Radio Announcer award with. Absolutely loved their bajus for the night.
Just before the awards kicked off; this is me, Simonsta and Prem goofing off outside during the live broadcast. And of course I couldn't resist getting a picture with my crush, oops, I mean, Henry Golding.
Sigh... it has been indeed an exciting and eventful 2 weeks. Today Prem got admitted into the hospital for some weird pains and he underwent a quick surgery but all is okay now. Will tell you more about that when I visit him again in the hospital tomorrow right after Ben and I collect our brand spanking new iPhone 3GS!
In the meantime, do please follow me on twitter.com/julesie :
You know I've been meaning to blog for the past few days but have been having a darn time trying to upload my pictures from my phone. Still can't manage to do due to some errors but what the heck, I'll blog anyway. Because what I'm about to say just can't wait...
THE PAGI SHOW ARE SABOTAGING US!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Brahhh. Not quite the effect I hoped it would have on me but nevermind, a little steam let off is better than none at all. Anyway let me bring you up to date on Fly Fm's Back To School. Prem and I had our first GOOD tuition session last weekend with some of our tutors and it was fun plus it was a great refresher course for us (thanks guys :) ). Last week we saw Pagi calling up 2 of our tutors, Nishan and Yi Won, spreading LIES about us on national radio; kononnye we were complaining that they sent in their entries late so we didn't want people like that on the team. Lucky for us we have good friends on our side, so another thanks go to the both of them.
And then on Monday, Pagi decide to call Yi Won (again, poor girl) and Ikhwan at 6 a.m., knowing full well that students need all the sleep they can get, just to put them through a pop quiz! I mean kamon, if you were woken up from your sleep and asked which part of Egypt did the Pythagoras Theorem originated from, would you know it?
Then yesterday, Nadia and Fabes called Prem and I up at 7 a.m. but here's where we surprised them; we were actually awake studying, hah! They asked me a Sejarah question and Prem a Science question and we actually got the answers right but they both would not admit it.
Does this sound like fair play to you? Prem and I have not retaliated because as former students, we know that you can resort to all sorts of trickery to get you through the academic year but when it comes to sitting for exams, there's only one way to it. And that is to study SMART.
Thanks to our tutors who are helping us, you guys are nothing but awesome. If you still want to register to tutor Prem or myself (or even Fabes, Ben and Nadia... because as a friend I have nothing against them) register now by clicking on the Back To School link on the main page. Better do it fast because Prem and I are close to picking our final 5 soon!
And to the Pagi Show, I admit you guys are sharp like lighting and thunder.
But Prem and I, we will bring you the real storm. Muahahahaha.....
You know when you're in school, your mother would say, "I tell you ah boy/girl, school days are the best days of your life!" and you will roll your eyes and think, my gawd, these old folks. Now that I'm 24 lemme tell you, if you're still in school and spend days fantasizing about the day you turn 18 and go to college (or for you farther sighted ones, you're thinking of *gasp* WORK), stop now! Because it’s true. School days are simply the best of your life.
I might not have been the most academically driven student in SMK Taman S.E.A but thanks to my 3 friends, going to school everyday was something to look forward to. There was Yunner who had this habit of "ostriching". Back in school she liked nothing better than reading under her desk with her head down. We borrowed the term "ostriching" from the ostrich behaviour of burying their heads in the sand when there's danger. And that is just the first of another gajillion odd habits she has that nobody knows.
Then there is the elusive Larry who’s really into J-pop, art, comics and everything that’s dark. No surprise that she’s doing architecture now. Larry is probably the most cultured of us 4 and the one who always impresses all the parents with her good manners. Her mother wanted to name her Cezanne after the artist but tak jadi. She also doesn’t like to eat anything except for selected Japanese foods, and occasionally an apple or bread.
Lastly, Carol makes up the 4 of us in the group. She is the most normal, stable one who does the best in exams and pontengs school the least among all of us but has a secret fetish for shopping. Looking back, it’s odd how we became such close friends because we all had very little in common. I guess that’s what defines friendship; there are no rules.
Actually there was one thing we all shared, and that was the physical resemblance of our fingers. We all had - are you ready for this? – stumpy, pudgy fingers. Thus we called ourselves Pudgy Co. (or P co. for short). I was surprised to learn later on that there were some of our other friends who wanted to be part of our group. This news took some time to digest because we were nowhere near being what you’d call the cool clique. Neither were we the most popular or teacher’s pets either. I think it might have something to do with the fact that fun is infectious.
And oh! The fun we had during our senior year! I was the first to get my driving license and when you pair that with a father who gave you the use of his car, havoc I tell you! The original intention was to only use the car to get to school and tuition classes but kamon, who are we kidding? Thank goodness my parents brought me up with enough sense so all we did was go for daytime excursions after school to various music shops and hang around pretending that we wanted to buy 5 piece drum sets and Ibanez guitars...
Honestly the last few days of my Form 5 year are abit of a blur. All I can recall is coming to school and passing time laughing in class and dreaming of life after school, kinda like what you may be dreaming about now if you’re still in school. As a teenager, I thought everything was possible and every dream was as good as a reality I just hadn’t achieved yet. Lucky for me the mindset is still the same; just a little harder to believe now that I’m an adult.
As you can imagine, this war thing against the Pagi Show with all of us kononnye going “back to school” has dug up a lot of memories not just for me, but for all of us. If you’re still in school, please please please do register to tutor any one of us (you can find the link somewhere around here) so we can all pass our PMR papers without embarrassing ourselves too much!
And to my 3 friends: Yunner who is in Amsterdam now, Larry who will be completing her studies soon and Carol who will start her first posting as a pharmacist in a few months time – guys, look what I’ve dug up! Hidup Pudgy Co.!
Okay so Pagi Show has challenged us to a PMR face off to see who's smarter. The subjects we'll be sitting for are: History, English, Math and Science. And despite all the bragging on both sides, this will be no easy task because it's been years since we've left school. 7 years for me, 9 years for Prem and who knows how many gajillion years for Fabes. Come to think of it, he probably doesn't remember either.
Anyway not to show off or anything la but when I was in primary school, I got all A's up till standard 6, and in Form 1 I was put in the best class. I admit it went downhill from there but I managed to redeem myself with 5 A's for PMR! It would've been straight A's if Sejarah, BM and Geography were not part of the exams but oh well... you can't ask for everything.
For SPM I dropped Chemistry and took English Literature, Bio was my worst subject followed by Geography and Add Math. As you can tell, I was never really a science oriented student but I managed to score A's for History, English, English Lit, Math and believe it or not, Moral! Yup, even I was surprised.
So all I'm asking is for you to register as my tutor for Fly Fm's Back To School and if we win as a team, not only will your tuition fee be doubled to RM200(!), Prem and I will throw a movie party siap with ice cream and popcorn to celebrate, woo hoo!
For now I'll leave with my standard 5 school picture in SRK Taman Megah.
