Grandiose pop sensations One Night Only announce the release of their self-titled second album, a captivating sophomore album from one of the UK’s brightest, boundless hopes.
Including the sizzling electro-rock single Say You Don’t Want It (which comes accompanied by a video featuring Harry Potter star Emma Watson) and their effervescent theme to the new Coca-Cola advert Can You Feel It? it’s an album still as high on the explosive clash of youth and rock music as their 2008 debut Started A Fire and its UK Number Nine hit single Just For Tonight, yet waking up to the wickedness that goes hand-in-hand with the world’s wonders.
Showcasing ONO’s more mature, electro-blasted new sound that recalls White Lies, Foo Fighters and the best of 80s synth pop, One Night Only was recorded in a townhouse studio in Brussels with producer Ed Buller (Pulp, Suede) in 2010 and maintains the debut’s youthful exuberance while covering themes ranging from mass consumerism (Say You Don’t Want It) to shallow celebrities and music industry figures (Anything) and the darker side of romance (Forget My Name, Bring Me Back Down).
It’s One Night Only all grown up and seeing the world realistically rather than idealistically. Not least in the case of singer George Craig who has grown into a power pop pin-up, Burberry model and beau to the Hollywood elite - not bad for a kid who helped form ONO in Helmsley, North Yorkshire in 2003, aged only thirteen.
Throughout the mid-00’s, ONO’s youth, talent and attitude swiftly brought them a rabid local following amongst the Yorkshire teens and a flurry of Myspace interest, landing them a record deal with Vertigo before George was sixteen. Their Steve Lillywhite-produced debut album was certified Gold and the towering pop sweep of Just For Tonight made them Top Ten stars in 2008, catapulting them onto theatre tours which saw them play one of the last ever headline sets at legendary London venue The Astoria. Since then their whirlwind of success has been documented in the footage they’ve posted fortnightly on their websites on what’s become known amongst their loyal fanbase as ONO Wednesdays.
“A lot of debut albums,” says bassist Mark Hayton, on the reasons for self-titling their second album, “the bands have been working on it for ages and they say ‘right, this is us’. That’s what we wanted to show – the first album was us growing up but this album is us finally finding the album we’ve been striving to make. We thought we’d finally made it.”
