Carly Rae Jepsen is in a bit of a rough position. Though she scored the biggest hit of the summer in "Call Me Maybe," spawning innumerable YouTube tributes and cutesy covers, practically anything she releases at this point will be held up against that irresistable chorus.
Unfortunately, it seems that Jepsen is a little too aware of all the attention. Her new single "This Kiss" bluntly avoids any of the joyful goofiness of Jepsen's previous hit, veering instead into the tried-and-true dance pop territory that's inescapable on Top 40 radio these days.
Though there's a cutesy backstory to the track — Jepsen supposedly co-wrote the song with her new emo boyfriend — there's nothing particularly memorable about the song itself, except perhaps how remarkably... mainstream it is.
What do you think of "This Kiss" — is it even fair to compare it to the biggest song of the summer?
