With how fast COVID-19 can be spread governments around the world have been coming up with ideas to track their citizens who are found positive to curb the spread of the virus.
In this episode of #TerkiniwithNandini Fly’s AM Mayhem and Nandini discuss if Malaysians are willing for the government to know their whereabouts and phone data to be tracked for COVID-19?!
Nandini and Fly’s AM Mayhem agree on the fact that, this could potentially bring lots of harm if this data falls in the wrong hands. More information about this tracking apps needs to be shared and explained to the people.
“In Singapore they had a survey done on whether people will be okay with getting their phone data tracked without their consent and surprisingly only 50% percent of the respondent were okay with it! Of course they would say this is what we are extracting but where is the transparency. I would say no! I’m okay with SELangkah app cause that’s necessary but a tracker app definitely not cause you will never know to what extent. I’m more concern about what happens after the pandemic, what happens to the information that they have stored? where is it gonna go? what are they go do with it?!” – Nandini
“They might abuse and blackmail you, if it’s in the wrong hands!” – Hafiz
“The point here is that its uncharted territory, you do not know to what extend, and you know there’s a high chance your personal details is being misused. I want to know the specifications before i stat giving my personal data. If they are going to go down this part fine! But tell exactly how its going to be done, how do you plan to protect me.” – Nandini
