BLACKPINK’s Lalisa Manoban is a lot of things: she raps, she sings, she dances, she choreographs, she is the face of some of the biggest brands in the world, she is a photographer, she is a cat momma and yet, she manages to slay every. single. one. of these. things. One thing that is a constant in the 23-year-olds life, however, is dance. The Thai K-pop phenomenon is well known for her mad dance skills, having started training in dance at the young age of 4 and regularly participating in competitions since. Fans of the artist know just how Boss of a dancer Lisa is, what with her many dance stages during concerts and stint as a dance mentor on Chinese girl group reality talent show ‘Youth With You’.

But now: Lalisa Manoban is here with her boldest persona yet as she – once and for all – silences the haters who have been picking on her since her rise to fame with the record-breaking girl group. In a newly released noir-like music video – really, it’s more of a cinematic masterpiece – directed and choreographed by (longtime friend and frequent dance collaborator) Cheshir Ha, Lisa is seen busting out jaw-dropping moves to Destiny Rogers’ ‘Tomboy’.

Everything is on point: Lisa’s attitude, the cinematography, the transitions, the mood, the colours. Bringing the lyrics of the song to life, Lisa’s facial expressions, small hand gestures and pointed eye contact only serve to elevate Rogers’ song, as she sings:

“I don’t like the drama but I’ll finish what you start, I’m makin’ sure you get the memo, yeah, I’ll meet you up on any level, yeah (Yeah) / Independent, don’t need help (Nah) / Underestimate me, you’ll be playing yourself,”

It’s no wonder that – a mere few hours after its release – #LILIFILM_THEMOVIE started dominating worldwide Twitter trends – proving just how powerful she is while sharing the same release date as Taylor Swifts’ re-recorded 2008 hit ‘Love Story’, as well as the drop of Ariana Grande’s ’34+35′ remix with Megan Thee Stallion and Doja Cat. As the video is titled, ‘The Movie’, fans are calling it ‘Oscar-worthy’.
