“It Cost Him His Marriage,” What Went Wrong Between Kanye West & Kim K?

Kanye West thinks that the final straw was…

News that Kim Kardashian and Kanye West were heading for a divorce may not be surprising to those ‘keeping up’ with the couple. As with every relationship, cracks appear and can grow into chasms over time, so it’s not surprising that pinpointing an exact catalyst to the end of a relationship can be difficult. Being in the public eye really doesn’t help either. As such, when news broke that the reality TV star had officially filed for divorce from her husband of six years, the question was: where did it go wrong? According to court documents, Kim K cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the divorce but neither the 40-year-old nor her 43-year-old rapper husband have publically spoken about the reasoning and these “differences”.

Not that they have to, the end of a relationship isn’t an easy one. However, multiple sources have spoken to multiple news outlets, each with a different idea of what really pushed the couple apart.

Going as far back as 2018, an unnamed source told Us Weekly that the turning point had been the controversial comment about slavery that Kanye West had made at the time. While speaking to TMZ, West had implied that America’s dark history of slavery “sounds like a choice”.

“For 400 years? That sounds like a choice. You were there for 400 years and it’s all of y’all. It’s like we’re mentally imprisoned.”

According to the source, “Kim was completely mortified by Kanye’s ridiculous and outrageous comments. It took a lot for them to move past it.”

Without a doubt, however, West’s erratic behaviour during his recent presidential run only made things a whole lot worse – and it all went down publically. Even West seems to think that this is what lead to the end of this marriage.

A source told PEOPLE that West has been having a hard time processing things.

“He’s in that place of ‘if only’. ‘If only I had done this, if only I hadn’t done that.’ He thinks that the Presidential run was the straw that broke the camel’s back. Before that, there was hope. After that, none. It cost him his marriage.”

During the course of his campaign, West had ranted in front of a small crowd at his first campaign rally on July 19 in South Carolina, about wanting Kim K to abort their eldest child:

“Even if my wife wants to divorce me after this speech, she brought North into the world even when I didn’t want to. She stood up and protected that child…My mom saved me life. My dad wanted to abort me. There would have been no Kanye West because my dad was too busy. I almost killed my daughter! I almost killed my daughter!”

And then proceeded to tweet that both her and her mother Kris Jenner were trying to ‘lock him up’.

“Kris, don’t play with me. You and that calmye are not allowed around my children. Ya’ll tried to lock me up.”

“Kim was trying to fly to Wyoming with a doctor to lock me up like on the movie Get Out because I cried about saving my daughter’s life yesterday,”

After this, Kim released a rare and very honest public statement asking that fans have “compassion” while acknowledging their “complicated and painful” situation.

“As many of you know, Kanye has bi-polar disorder.  Those that understand mental illness or even compulsive behaviour know that the family is powerless unless the member is a minor. People who are unaware or far removed from this experience can be judgmental and not understand that the individual themselves have to engage in the process of getting help no matter how hard family and friends try.  I understand Kanye is subject to criticism because he is a public figure and his actions at times can cause strong opinions and emotions. He is a brilliant but complicated person who on top of the pressures of being an artist and a black man, who experienced the painful loss of his mother, and has to deal with the pressure and isolation that is heightened by his bipolar disorder.I kindly ask that the media and public give us the compassion and empathy that is needed so that we can get through this. Thank you for those who have expressed concern for Kanye’s well being and for your understanding.”

Be it as it may, the important bit is that both Kim Kardashian and Kanye West have reached an agreement, with the spit being “amicable”. Kim has asked for joint legal and physical custody of their kids, – two daughters, North and Chicago; and two sons, Saint and Psalm – to which, West is apparently in agreement. Here’s to hoping the two can put their differences and troubles aside for the sake of their children.
