Jada Pinkett Smith, once the lead singer of a heavy metal band and always an advocate for women empowerment, has proven that you can respectfully observe the cultures and traditions of other religions and nations – without appropriating them! In a recent post that comes just in time for Ramadan, the 49-year-old ‘Matrix’ star shared a simple yet classy image of herself donning an orange hijab, paired with a long-sleeved jeans shirt, a batik sarong and sports shoes.

The ‘Red Table Talk’ host appears to be in the Middle East (could be a throwback, we’re not sure), as she explains in her caption:

“When you are in the Middle East watching @willsmith on his sunrise run in my non glamour glory and the talented @jas wants to capture it✨💫”

Comments on her post were positive, praising the actress for observing the dress code in the Middle East and respectfully donning the hijab while on her stay.

The timeless mother of two went on to post selfies of herself donning the hijab, commenting:

“I really think the color peach in the Middle East … suits me✨”

While this may be the first time fans have seen Pinkett Smith in a hijab, it is not the first time she’s taken to covering her head or hair. Pinkett Smith has been vocal about her struggle with hair loss, and as a result, begun wearing scarves (sometimes styled to look like a turban) on her head. Back in 2018, she revealed on an episode of ‘Red Table Talk’ that she suspected she may have alopecia (a condition that causes hair to fall out in small patches). At the time, the struggle with accepting her hair loss was “difficult to talk about” as she had viewed its upkeep as a “beautiful ritual”. However, over time, she learned to accept that her fate is in the hands of a “higher power”.

“People are out here with cancer, with sick children… I watch the higher power take things every day. When I looked at it from that perspective it did settle me.”

It helped as well, that the choice to wear scarves on her head, acted as an empowering fashion choice.

“When my hair is wrapped, I feel like a queen,”

And she looks like one too! Kudos to the actress for being able to respectfully observe the different traditions and cultures while also staying true to herself!
