Blatant racism or a byproduct of wanting to ‘stay consistent’?

It’s hard to believe anyone would turn down the Internet’s new boyfriend, but apparently, that’s exactly what happened to Regé-Jean Page after he tried out for the role of Superman’s grandfather on the Syfy TV series, ‘Krypton’.

In The Hollywood Reporter’s tell-all with ‘Justice League’ star Ray Fisher, it was revealed that Regé-Jean Page had gone to audition for the DC Comics TV role of Seg-El: the Scion of the House of El, father of Jor-El and the future grandfather of Kal-El, after hearing word that creators were looking to go with a “nontraditional casting” for the character. However, it was later reported that the former co-chairman of DC films, Geoff Johns, rejected the idea because he thought “Superman could not have a Black grandfather”. As he was overseeing the series in its production, what the longtime DC comics writer wanted, he got. As a result, the role went to another British star, Cameron Cuffe.

After hearing the allegations, Jean Page took to Twitter to share his disappointment – and resolve. In his honest tweet, he says:

“Hearing about these conversations hurts no less now than it did back then. The clarifications almost hurt more tbh. Still just doing my thing. Still we do the work. We still fly.”

The “explanation” that the 31-year-old ‘Bridgerton’ breakout star refers to is Johns belief that fans “expected” the character to look like “a young version of Henry Cavill”, following “initial fan perception” of the show possibly serving as a prequel to the 2013 movie ‘Man of Steel’. In any case, the show ended after a two-season run, with mixed reviews and a less than stellar reception. Meanwhile, Regé-Jean Page is flying. He is now one of Hollywood’s hottest actors, and despite his decision to exit the show that put his name on the map, he will be seen in two highly anticipated movies in the months to come: ‘The Gray Man‘ and ‘Dungeons and Dragons‘.

Things always find a way of working out, don’t they?
