What a time to be an Arianator! Last week our Pop Princess dropped her latest single and music video, ‘’Positions’’—and it has us fans daydreaming about what it would be like to have Ari in the Oval Office as POTUS. ‘’President Grande’’ sure has a nice ring to it. Yuhh!
Deep breaths, new @arianagrande just landed. 📁🤍

But but, as usual, even if an artist doesn’t necessarily address the hidden meanings behind the lyrics, fans would always find a way to search for a few tiny details. While the track seems to be a pretty straightforward love song (presumably about her reported relationship with Dalton Gomez), some folks are wondering if Ariana might also make a casual reference to her former relationship with SNL actor Pete Davidson.
You might not have noticed during the first listen, but when Ari sings “I’m just hopin’ I don’t repeat history,” she takes a fairly significant pause between the two syllables of the word “repeat.” So…is she actually singing the name “Pete?” Plenty of fans seem to think so.

It wouldn’t be the first time that Ari name-checked an ex; after all, the entire first verse of “Thank U, Next” calls out her exes one by one…and she also named an entire song after Pete Davidson during the height of their relationship.
Of course, the only way to know if the lyric’s cadence was intentional is if Ari confirms it herself, which she has yet to do. (And FWIW, Pete hasn’t commented on the theory either.)
As for this newest era of Ari’s music, we’re about to get a lot more insight about what AG6 has in store. The full album will be released on Friday, October 30 — meaning, we only have a few more days to wait.
