Romance is in the air!
After a year of waiting, Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story has finally released its trailer. The new romantic musical film is a remake of the 1961 fan-fave classic, which debuted during the 93rd Academy Awards – and it looks like the successful director is keeping a few things faithful to the original.

The film, which will be released on December 18, is both a romance and a crime story. It’s about dreams crashing into reality, singing and dancing, and then a twist in fate cutting each other down in bursts of violence. It’s about hope and desperation, pride and actual prejudice, and a star-crossed couple who find love amid it all the rivalry on the streets of New York.
The trailer footage features the beloved song Somewhere and introduces viewers to the new faces, which included Ansel Elgort as Tony, Rachel Zegler as Maria, Ariana DeBose portraying Anita, David Alvarez as Bernardo, and Josh Andrés Rivera as Chino.

Rachel was just 17 years old and still in high school when she landed the role of Maria in the new film. “I am so thrilled to be playing the iconic role of Maria alongside this amazing cast,” she said at the time. “West Side Story was the first musical I encountered with a Latina lead character.”
“As a Colombian-American, I am humbled by the opportunity to play a role that means so much to the Hispanic community.”
We love representation!
