(Major spoilers ahead for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier finale, so please be warned!)
Throughout the season, we see how John Walker was “built” by the government to be the next Captain America, but as soon as he succumbs to the pressure of being the symbol of the country and completely falls apart, he is abandoned. Before that, a battle against Bucky Barnes and Sam Wilson leaves John on the floor with a broken arm, the shield taken away from him.
Enraged and alone, we see John crafting a new shield for himself with his own bare hands (we couldn’t help but feel a little sorry for him) in a post-credit scene for episode 5.
The season finale shows John marching down the streets with his, um, cosplay shield, screaming Karli Morgenthau’s name and making it clear that he is out for her blood. However, John seems to have a change of heart later on when he decides to save a truck of civilians instead of pursuing Karli. This seems to take him out of the ‘naughty’ list and into the ‘good’ list…but how long will it stick?
At the end of the episode, we see Valentina Allegra de Fontaine presenting John with a new suit…that hails him as none other than U.S. Agent!
But who is the U.S. Agent? More importantly, is he on the good side or the bad?
Well, based on the history of his comic counterpart, he has fought alongside the Avengers against multiple threats. In fact, he has even led them on one occasion. However, he seems to be most comfortable exploring the grey area and doing what he feels is right. But he has also been depicted to be Captain America’s adversary a few times!
It’s still too early in the game to place bets on where the MCU will take this character, but we are excited to find out!
