Being a fan of This Is Us series means you’re a pro sleuth in putting together clues from the Pearsons’ flashbacks and flash-forwards to figure out where they are at the end of all of this—and unfortunately, the end is coming sooner than many who have fallen in love with this family would want. Although season 5 is still underway, season 6 is right around the corner, and there’s good news and bad news. The good news? The sixth season is definitely happening. The bad news? It’s going to be the show’s last.

Before you absolutely freak out, here’s what we know so far:
First and foremost, are Kate and Toby still together? What about Kevin and Madison? What’s the deal with Randall and Beth, and Deja, Annie, and Tess now that they’re all grown up? Then there are all the missing pieces that have to do with Jack and Rebecca, too, so my fingers are crossed that the end of the show will bring everything to a satisfying conclusion—and yes, there will be a lot of tears involved.
There are still so many loose ends that need to be tied up before then too—and with just over a season and a half to do it, it’s a tall order. We’ve always known that at the end of all this, the family is gathering to say goodbye to Rebecca, but we have no idea where most of the Pearsons are in their lives at that point (or when exactly it is).

This has been the plan for a while.
Back in 2019, when This Is Us was renewed for Season 6, showrunner Dan Fogelman revealed that, in his vision for the show, it would only run for six seasons total, because at that point, the whole story would have been told.
“We never set out to make a television series that was going to last 18 seasons, so we have a very direct plan,” Fogelman told the Hollywood Reporter at the time. “I have script pages I have written and I’m writing that really are deep, deep, deep into the future. We have a plan for what we’re going to do, and I know what the plan is.”
