The world is currently going crazy for the matcha trend—lattes, ice cream, pancakes, waffles. chocolates, you name it. But what exactly is it? Matcha is simply green tea leaves ground into a fine powder meaning that you consume the whole tea leaf rather than what steeps from it. 

Originated in Japan centuries ago and was traditionally used for tea ceremonies, but has now been recognised for its health benefits, versatility and bright green colour in many other aspects of food and drink… the list is endless. To celebrate—and help you satisfy your craving—over matchas, we’ve collated some of our faves matcha cafes located in the Klang Valley for you matcha lovers! 

1. Oh Cha Matcha

Also known as OCMC, Oh Cha Matcha is a boutique matcha café that is located at the heart of TTDI. As you arrive at the front door, you’ll be greeted by cute pastel pink and Matcha green colours that complement one and another.

Aside from the very Instagrammable interior, OCMC specialises in a variety of matcha drinks to choose from, (you could even customize your own milk preferences). Each of the drinks comes with health benefits as they are gluten-free and vegan friendly too. To balance out your sweet and savoury tooth, they even offer rice bowls, pastas and light bites over here. Heaven

2. Niko Neko

This one needs no introduction. To hardcore fans, Niko Neko is the best place to go, to cater their matcha goodness fix. Ranging from desserts to drinks which also includes matcha latte. You can customise your drink with the three different types of matcha powders depending on your preference. 

The artisan brand is also known to collaborate with various high prestiges cafes like Laduree itself! Nike Neko matcha can now be found at over 20 stores in KL and PJ including VCR Cafe, Bean Brothers and Cake Jalan Tiung. Psstt, check out their Gooey Matcha Cookies.

Calling all matcha ice cream lovers, you can now experience their Noukou Matcha ice cream which is made with high-quality green tea powder imported all the way from Japan. If you’re tired walking around the mall and looking for some fresher, why not try their Matcha Cream Latte which is made from Kyoto-based Marukyu-Koyamaen’s matcha powder.

5. Matcha Saro 

Matcha Saro specialises in all things Matcha while the ingredients here are imported all the way from Kyoto, Japan. The menu here ranges from Soft Serve Ice-Cream to Parfait, Warabi Mochi to their signature Obanyaki. So, when we say all things Matcha, we actually mean it’s a literal matcha heaven here.

This means that everything here at 108 Matcha Saro is exclusive and of top-notch quality only. Be sure to try out the Obanyaki, a Red Bean Paste with Warabi Mochi wrapped inside Matcha dough. On the other hand, for soft serve lovers, don’t forget to try out their Matcha Parfait as well!
