Lana Condor Says “Lara Jean Needs To Grow Apart” From Peter Kavinsky

Actors Lana Condor and Noah Centineo weighed in on their famous characters

If you finished watching Netflix’s To All the Boys: Always and Forever, you probably have one major question. (And if you haven’t seen it yet, you’ll probably need this warning: spoilers ahead!)

The conclusion of the third and final film in the TATB series (based on Jenny Han’s popular books) leaves fans wondering whether or not Lara Jean and Peter are going to make it, now that they’re trying their hand at a long-distance relationship, with Peter attending California’s Stamford University and Lara Jean on the opposite coast at NYU. And while LJ is onto something about the romance of cross-country love letters, it’s no secret that LDRs are hard work, especially when both partners are experiencing college life for the first time.

In an interview with Elle, actors Lana Condor and Noah Centineo weighed in on whether or not Lara Jean and Peter are going to last…and friends, you might not like what they have to say. “I think their intentions are to try, but I also know that life gets in the way, and I do believe they need to grow separately,” she explained. “They’re at that pinnacle time in your life where you’re developing.” It’s certainly a fair point; after all, the third film shows us just how excited Lara Jean is about starting her chapter in New York City, and NYU seems to have brought out a new side of the character.

As for Noah, he’s a lot less sure, offering up “I have no idea” as his response. “I think they leave the ending open to ambiguity, and I think [they did it for] a good reason,” the actor added. “So I hope they make it, but we’ll have to find out when we do the fourth one….” To quote Peter for a sec…Whoa-whoa-whoa! (FWIW, there’s no current plans to make any other TATB movies, but it seems like Noah and I have the same dream.)
