The loss of Chadwick Boseman inflicted great pain for the cast of Black Panther who worked closely with the talented actor that succumbed to cancer at only 43 years of age in August 2020. Fortunately, superheroes live beyond their years and the cast has promised that Boseman will be honoured and his legacy will live on for fans.
The death of Chadwick Boseman late last year had many wondering exactly how Black Panther 2 would not only continue, but honor the late actor. Although details about the sequel’s plot have yet to be revealed, Marvel did confirm in Dec 2020, that Boseman would not be replaced with another actor.
“Chadwick Boseman was an immensely talented actor and an inspirational individual who affected all of our lives professionally and personally,” Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige said during Disney’s Investor Day event. “His portrayal of T’Challa the Black Panther is iconic and transcends iteration of the character in any other medium from Marvel’s past.” Feige added: “To honor the legacy that Chad helped us build through his portrayal of the king of Wakanda, we want to continue to explore the world of Wakanda and all of the rich and varied characters introduced in the first film.”
So how will it work? Knowing how Marvel operates there’s a surprise waiting for us to look forward to!
It was also revealed, the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Black Panther 2 will begin production, in what’s going to be a hugely emotional experience for the cast and crew. As the pressure to uphold the success over $1.3 billion at the box office for the first film, scored the best reviews of any MCU movie and became the first comic book blockbuster to land an Academy Award nomination for Best Picture, expectations are understandably through the roof.
