Idris Elba is in talks to replace Will Smith in the Suicide Squad sequel that will be directed by filmmaker James Gunn and Warner Bros.
Will smith was not able to join the cast of the upcoming DC Comics Movie due to scheduling conflicts, and not long after the studio found another A-lister to replace the ‘’Aladdin” actor before production begins in September. According to the Hollywood Reporter “Elba was the first and only choice for Gunn and the studio.”
It’s unsure whether Margot Robbie will be joining Elba in the sequel as Harley Quinn.
Ahead of “Suicide Squad 2,” Elba is hot on demand, the actor is set to host Saturday Night Live this weekend, and will be starring in the upcoming Netflix series “Turn Up Charlie,” which is set to air this spring. He’ll also be appearing on the big screen, alongside Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham for “The Fast and the Furious” spinoff “Hobbs and Shaw,” as well as Universal and Tom Hooper’s “Cats” adaptation with Taylor Swift, Jennifer Hudson and James Corden.
Talk about a big year for Elba!
Suicide Squad 2 hits theaters August 6, 2021.
