James Gunn will be back in action!
The 51-year-old film-maker, has been rehired by Disney to direct Guardians of the Galaxy 3 after he was fired over a decade-old tweets that resurfaced of him making jokes about rape and abuse.
He was dismissed in July 2018 over the tweets that Disney called “indefensible”. However, things have taken a turn, and apparently, the decision to rehire him was made months ago after back and forth conversations between Disney and Marvel. The Walt Disney Studios chairman, Alan Horn, was reportedly persuaded by Gunn’s public apology and a series of meetings. This also comes after many of the cast members including Bradley Cooper, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Vin Diesel and Dave Bautista, from the Marvel series signed an open letter pleading for Gunn’s return.
Gunn took to twitter to share the news and thanked Disney and his supporters. He tweeted “excited to continue making films that investigate the ties of love that bind us all”.

The director will reportedly begin production of Guardians of the Galaxy 3 after he completes Suicide Squad 2, which is currently produced by Marvel rival DC.
Before he was fired, Gunn confirmed that he had written the script for a third Guardians of the Galaxy film.
