Despite the big controversy and security concerns, Warner Bros.’ “Joker” now has a new record at the domestic box office.

The R-rated comic-book movie garnered $93.5 million at 4,374 sites over the weekend and as of now, stands as the biggest October launch of all time.

The ticket sales for the film surpassed last year’s Sony’s superhero movie “Venom” with $80 million.

The film Directed by Todd Phillips and starring Joaquin Phoenix, “Joker” were the subject of scrutiny before its release, due to fears that the disturbing origin story of Batman’s infamous antagonist could glorify violence.
