Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s resignation as the Prime Minister has been accepted by Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah on Monday, 24 February.
However, the Agong has appointed him to continue as the interim PM.
In a statement, Chief Secretary to the Government Mohd Zuki Ali said the Agong has accepted Dr Mahathir’s resignation for the post of Prime Minister.
“However, His Majesty agreed to appoint Dr Mahathir as interim prime minister while waiting for the appointment of a new prime minister in accordance with Article 43(2)(a) of the Federal Constitution,” the statement read.
